Michael Nesmith's Virtual World

_1_0.jpgSXSW is pleased to announce that musician/visionary Michael Nesmith will be webcasting shows from Austin during SXSW. Nesmith's project, VideoRanch 3D, allows acts to perform for a global audience in VideoRanch's virtual venues and allows the audience to interact with each other and the performers. PepsiCo's Return of the Social Experiment!

che_smith2_web.jpgBy its very nature, soul music is a changeable thing. The form emerged from the streets of Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia and Memphis, and found worldwide acclaim in the early '60s. It grew more funky and psychedelic as times changed, and even transformed into disco for a while. Much like jazz that came before it, this African-American art form is challenged to maintain its identity and its audience in this 21st century era.

Music Panel Spotlight: Music and the Revolution

mike_jacobs_web.jpgMarch 6th was the 40th anniversary of the Greenwich Village Townhouse explosion, which made the existence of the Weather Underground widely known. May 4th will be the 40th anniversary of the Kent State shootings. On March 18th, SXSW presents Music and the Revolution, a special panel of speakers who took to the streets four decades ago in opposition to the Vietnam War and the US Government.
