YouTube Treats - Kidz In The Hall "Got It Made"

We're happy to have Kidz In The Hall back at The 2

Meet the Team: Team Facelift

The former graffiti crew from the Upper East and West sides of Manhattan, Team Facelift consists of a cleverly named trio that indulges its listeners with glam rap and equally clever lyrics. The group is known for their volatile dance beats and questionably insidious behavior on stage.

SXSW & BBQ: The Tasty Truth

Chowhounds who visit Austin and Central Texas for SXSW make it a point to experience the culinary treasure of Texas barbecue. In March 2009, the SXSW Music Conference presented a distinguished panel of experts, including Rick Schmidt, the owner of the legendary Kreuz Market, to discuss the traditions, tastes and associated lore at the panel "BBQ The Texas Way." We've posted highlights of the panel to whet your appetite for a few slices of brisket in March. The only fork you need is at the end of your arm.

YouTube Treats - All The Angels

Well, we have more Dead Confederate videos via the SXSW YouTube Channel than you can shake a stick at.

Have a gander at their SXSW 2009 showcase closer "All the Angels." Another fine offering from the Georgia boys whose thick, heavy sound will enchant you in a disenchanting sort of way.

YouTube Treats - The Thunderous Riffage of Red Fang

I cannot overstate how incredible this band is. Complete with stupefying, face melting riffs and laser sharp twin guitar leads. All that and songs about aliens destroying humanity. Live, they are an eight legged Tazmanian Devil. Whirling, snarling and destroying everything in their wake. Make note kids. This is what rock is all about. Here they are layin' the Earth to waste at Spiro's.

I present you with Red Fang's "Sharks":

YouTube Treats - The Return of Dead Confederate

Ah, the return of Dead Confederate to the SXSW Music Bloggy. If you recall, we featured a clip of the band performing "Yer Circus" in June.

Now we're back with yet another song from their bitchin' SXSW performance at Spiro's. "The Rat" made its way onto the US Modern Rock chart and is a dirgey little number fraught with emotion and 80s guitars, both tasty elements, if you ask me.

Anyway, it seems that the 17 year old in all of us should enjoy some of this Georgia badassery. So, without further ado jeunes et fils, "The Rat"...

Mmm...Barbeque

Ahh, the good ol' summertime. Nothing says summer quite like barbeque. So kick back with a big plate of brisket, ribs, and sausage and listen to the podcast from March of the panel BBQ The Texas Way. Celebrated in story, song and legend, Texas barbeque is clearly state-of-the-art when it comes to smoked meat traditions. Prepare to embark on a beefy sojourn.

The SXSW YouTube Video Vault - Johnny Cash - 1994 Keynote Address

Flashback to 1994. Where were you on March 17? That was the day the man in black came to SXSW to serve as keynote speaker and blow us all away with a mesmerizing set at Emo's. Yes, Johnny Cash played Emo's... on the same bill as Beck... who was then largely unknown.

But I digress... I feel fortunate to introduce this keynote clip. I feel even more fortunate to have been there. (Yes, that's me standing next to him looking like a total doof in the press shots. He was surrounded by men, decided that wasn't right and said, "I need some girls here" and grabbed then music booker Annie McReynolds and me to stand beside him. Talk about being in a magical place at a magical time.)
