Music Throwback: Johnny Cash at SXSW 1994

Johnny Cash's 1994 keynote address and showcase performance at Emo's brought SXSW a great deal of attention, bringing international interest to the growing event. Cash was beginning his collaboration with Rick Rubin on his series of American Recordings. As he turned to a stripped-down, song-focused project, he mused on his journey and how energized he was by the challenge presented by Rubin. Interspersing his talk with a few songs, Cash set the template for keynotes to follow.
