Soul Clap is the most popular soul dance party in the world, playing to more people in more places than any other. Jonathan Toubin is bringing the Soul Clap to the Palm Door on Sixth (508 E 6th St) for the free official SXSW closing party this Sunday, March 16 starting at 8:00pm!
Toubin plays all original soul 45s from the 1960s and uncommon upbeat cuts perfect for dancing the night away. The closing party will be divided in half by a thirty minute dance competition with a $100 prize! Jonathan Toubin will MC while hip hop legend Boots Riley of The Coup picks the songs. Judges include Edwin Neal (from 1974's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Kid Congo Powers, Austin Brown (of Parquet Courts) and more!
The evening will begin with four bands including: Kid Congo and The Pink Monkey Birds, led by Kid Congo Powers of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds; Daddy Long Legs, a fast and raw blues trio making their debut in Austin; lo-fi 1960s-inspired garage band Habibi; and Vockah Redu and The Cru, who will bring one of the most elaborated stage shows in all of the bounce genre.
Jonathan Toubin will close out the night with Soul Clap after the Dance Off. The show is free and open to the public, and starts at 8:00pm tomorrow at the Palm Door on Sixth (508 E 6th St).
