Blockchain & Cryptocurrency: Chaotic Good?
If you ask us, it’s about time that Blockchain & Cryptocurrency graduated from a trend to a track for SXSW 2019. Now badgeholders can enjoy three days of programming in the second half of the Conference from March 14-16 exploring all things Blockchain & Cryptocurrency after spending time navigating the other 25 Tracks of the programming.
In this article, we’re looking at everything you know about blockchain through a deviant lens. These 2019 SXSW Conference sessions are highlighting individuals and companies in the Blockchain & Cryptocurrency world that are disrupting the status quo and are being bad in order to achieve lasting good. We’ll look at sessions for the anarchists, thieves, and overly-obsessed within us all.
Blockchain & Cryptocurrency Session Highlights
Reimagine Family Through Blockchain
Calling all anarchists! Emerging technology has the potential to redefine how we legally group together families. Social organization is already occurring through digital sorting – think algorithmic sorting, social engineering, or data harvesting through social media – but this session focuses on putting these technologies back in the hands of the individual. Hear from Yin Aiwen, a Chinese designer leading grassroots efforts to provide local communities with clean energy, Berlin-based game designer Jelena Viskovic, and Corvinus University’s Orsolya Bajusz as they explore ways to circumvent the current restrictive social organizational systems by creating decentralized platforms.
Crypto Crime: How to Steal Cryptocurrency
You read that correctly – this one is for the hackers and thieves! If you thought blockchain was super secure, think again. We’ll debunk the myth around cryptocurrency security and we’ll even do a live hacking demo – a real life how-to on stealing cryptocurrency! Rob Pope of DOGTOWN Media will take us on this questionable quest – all in the name of learning how to build more secure assets.
CryptoKitties: Craze, Community, and What’s Next
CryptoKitties is the first and most successful consumer blockchain game with a cult following. The game itself has a fairly simple premise: buy Kitty, care for Kitty, and breed Kitty to make more Kitties. CryptoKitties gripped consumers from the beginning, taking over 25% of the entire Ethereum blockchain’s traffic with the most expensive Kitty selling for $140,000 at the height of it’s popularity. For the first time, get a look behind the scenes with CryptoKitties founders Roham Gharegozlou and Dieter Shirley as they talk through the process of getting CryptoKitties off the ground and catapulted into the blockchain infamy, as well as their vision for the future of blockchain.
Of course, all the sessions in the Blockchain & Cryptocurrency Track won’t be so sinister – check out these other sessions as well as Keynote Speaker Joseph Lubin, and Featured Speakers Amber Baldet, and David Schwartz with Sara Silverstein:
