Volunteer Types

It’s a new year and new volunteer experience! Becoming a SXSW and SXSW EDU Volunteer just got a little bit easier. Check out our two volunteer types and the various ways you can earn a badge by being a volunteer with SXSW and SXSW EDU.

SXSW offers two volunteer types, each with different hour and availability requirements, providing the flexibility to build a schedule and volunteer experience that fits YOU!

SXSW Conference & Programming Volunteer

Conference & Programming Volunteers have a range of crews to choose from and can be found in all areas of the event at any time. Volunteers help with event operations, provide customer service to event attendees, and help support fellow volunteers. Whether you want to be front and center or behind the scenes, this volunteer type has it!

Conference & Programming Volunteers are eligible for a SXSW Volunteer Platinum, Music, Film & TV, or Interactive Badge. SXSW EDU Badges are also available either on their own or as an add-on to one of the other SXSW badges.

SXSW Music & Comedy Festival Volunteer

Do you have an ear for the next big act or have an interest in music production? This volunteer-type might be your jam! Music and Comedy Festival Volunteers help support showcasing artists in a variety of ways during the days and nights of the SXSW Music and Comedy Festivals. Since this volunteer type only operates during the SXSW Music Festival, the time requirement is less.

Volunteers with a Music and Comedy Festival Volunteer schedule are eligible for a SXSW Volunteer Platinum or Music Badge.
