As founder and leader of Motörhead, Kilmister was a pivotal figure in the development of modern heavy metal and was the archetype of the hard-living rock n’ roll lifer until his death in 2015. He came to SXSW both to perform with Motörhead and to attend the premiere of Lemmy, a documentary about his life and music career. During his interview session, he shared his often-hilarious retrospective of his band’s career, as well as memories of his time in Hawkwind and punk’s nascent years in London.
