GENERAL TERMS OF ACCOMMODATIONS FOR DISABLED PERSONS (2012)

Contact us at access@sxsw.com as soon as possible with any questions or specific accommodation requests.
Patrons who are disabled receive a badge that allows for a plus one for translators and personal attendants. The extra individual does not receive credentials, but must be accompanied by the individual who has purchased the badge.
Disability accommodations information is provided at the Connection Center outside of Exhibit Hall 4 in the Austin Convention Center.
Accessible seating will be provided at all events where seating is provided.
Accessible port-o-potties are provided at all events where port-o-potties are present.
Service animals are welcome at all events.
PATRONS WHO ARE MOBILITY IMPAIRED
Patrons and presenters who are mobility impaired should contact us at access@sxsw.com as soon as possible to discuss accommodations.
SXSW provides a free shuttle service for badge holders to the following locations during certain events.

We will cover these shuttle routes with a wheelchair accessible van on an as-needed basis for patrons who are mobility impaired. When a procedure is established for ordering a wheel chair accessible shuttle service, that will be posted here.

Charging stations for electric mobility devices are provided throughout the Austin Convention Center. Information on locations and specifications of charging stations is provided at the Connection Center outside Exhibit Hall 4.
Please keep in mind that SXSW is spread out allover downtown Austin. Traffic is often congested and it may be faster to use means other than vehicles to travel to venues. Be prepared to cover long distances.
Segways, 2-wheeled scooters, golf carts and anything with an internal combustion engine are not allowed.
Wheelchairs and 3 or 4 wheel electric scooters are allowed and are reasonably accommodated.
Seating for panels, keynote presentations and awards ceremonies fills up quickly. Seating is on a first-come first-serve basis, so make sure to arrive early. Also, remember that popular events fill up especially early.
AUDITORIUM SHORES
A wheelchair seating area is available near the front of house.
The wheelchair seating area is available to patrons in wheelchairs plus one adult and children less than 18 years of age.
Please remember Auditorium Shores is a large outdoor venue with natural terrain. This means you will need to cover large distances over grassy, uneven and sometimes muddy ground.
SXSW does not provide push service.
PATRONS WHO ARE BLIND/VISION IMPAIRED
Patrons and presenters who are blind or have vision impairment should contact us at access@sxw.com as soon as possible to discuss reasonable accommodations.
Information on shuttle service stops will be available from volunteers at the Connection Center outside of Exhibit Hall 4 in the Austin Convention Center.
Volunteers are available to read information to patrons who are blind or have visual impairment.
PATRONS WHO ARE DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING
Patrons and presenters who are deaf or hard of hearing should contact us at access@sxsw.com as soon as possible to discuss accommodations.
SXSW has engaged Lotusign Interpretation Services to provide quality American Sign Language interpreters when needed at our events. Patrons who are deaf or hard of hearing should contact us at access@sxsw.com as soon as possible in order to schedule interpreters for keynotes presentations, panels, Accelerator and awards.
SXSW will provide presenters with ASL interpreters through Lotusign for their presentations. If presenters choose to attend other panels, they will need to request interpreters for the specific panels they want to attend.
SXSW does not provide interpreters to accompany individuals through trade shows, ScreenBurn or to parties. Lotusign is excited to offer free social/networking student interpreters at no cost to participants for after hours networking events. freeintern@lotusign.com.
Seating at SXSW events fills up quickly. Seats located for interpreter viewing will be saved until and event starts, after which seating will be opened up to the general audience on a first-come first-serve basis.
The Film Festival Guide will notate which movies are close-captioned or subtitled.
AUDITORIUM SHORES
Auditorium Shores will have an ASL interpreter provided by Lotusign Interpretation Services.
WHAT WE DO NOT PROVIDE
Connection to sound boards.
American Sign Language Interpreting at movies.
American Sign Language interpreting at independent music venues for each band that performs.
Personal or individually prescribed devices, such as wheelchairs, prescription eye glasses or hearing aids.
Services of a personal nature, such as assistance in eating, toileting or dressing.
