Tim League Joins the SXSW V2V Lineup

Tim League Photo by Annie RayPhoto by Annie RayAlamo Drafthouse CEO and Founder Tim League will joining us in Las Vegas this summer at the inaugural SXSW V2V as a part of our 20/20 Vision speaker series. We couldn't be more thrilled that he will be able to share his vast entrepreneurial experience and vision with our attendees.

Tim League graduated from Rice University in 1992 with degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Art/Art History. After a two-year stint at Shell Oil in Bakersfield, California, Tim left engineering and opened up his first movie theater. When that theater closed after a short run in 1995, he and his wife Karrie headed to Austin with 200 seats, a projector, screen, speakers and a passion to do it right the second time. They founded the Alamo Drafthouse in 1997, where as CEO League remains committed to providing creative programming and a zero tolerance policy for disruption during the theater experience. League also co-founded Fantastic Fest, the largest genre film festival in the United States and recently launched Drafthouse Films, a distribution label committed to releasing provocative, visionary and unusual films from around the world. Past releases include critically-acclaimed comedies FOUR LIONS and KLOWN, the rediscovered classic WAKE IN FRIGHT, and the Oscar-nominated BULLHEAD. When asked about his early qualifications for opening a movie theater, League answered "none, other than really liking movies, which I guess is the most important part." The Alamo Drafthouse is expanding nationwide to New York, San Francisco, Dallas, and Washington DC, with many more on the horizon.

Steve Case, one of America’s best-known and most accomplished entrepreneurs and philanthropists, and a pioneer in making the Internet part of everyday life, will deliver the Tuesday, August 13 Keynote for SXSW V2V.

Recently called "one of the nation's greatest entrepreneurs" by CNBC, Steve Case is Chairman and CEO of Revolution, Co-Founder of America Online and Chairman of The Case Foundation.

Steve co-founded America Online (AOL) in 1985, when the Internet was in its infancy. Under Steve’s leadership, AOL became the world’s largest and most valuable Internet company, and helped drive the worldwide adoption of a medium that has transformed business and society. AOL’s early focus on ease of use and social media set the stage for its rapid growth, and at its peak nearly half of Internet users in the United States used AOL. In 1992, AOL became the first Internet company to go public, and was the best performing stock of the 1990s, with a 11,616% return. Steve then negotiated what remains the largest merger in business history, bringing together AOL and Time Warner in a transaction that gave AOL shareholders a majority stake in the combined company. To facilitate the merger, Steve agreed to step down as CEO when the merger closed.
