With apologies to Soylent Green, #VegasTech is people. But instead of eating them, we’re attracting them, from Silicon Valley to 128, from the UK to China to Australia. What kind of people? Technology shapeshifters, brilliant iconoclasts who develop everything from robots to mobile apps to Switch’s 2.2 million square foot data center, the world’s largest and most powerful; avant-garde artists and makers unconstrained by the social, academic, and technological conventions of other, less radical places; and, the best customer service and support people anywhere, exemplified by change agent Zappos.
We at #VegasTech are the hub of that “undiscovered country” getting on everyone’s map – fast. Founders, executives, technologists, marketers, consultants, you have a choice: go where technology has been dominant for the last 5 decades or start up the technology of the next 5 decades. Because when it comes to innovation, what’s incubated in Las Vegas doesn’t stay in Las Vegas: it’s demanded across the globe. Forbes wrote about our “entrepreneurial renaissance,” calling us a “meta-incubator of innovation and ideas.” With a $200 million venture fund from Founder Rob Roy’s Switch and $350 million committed from Downtown Project (via Zappos’ Founder Tony Hsieh), that renaissance is happening now, powered by zero – that’s Nevada’s state income tax – and 85, our percentage of sunny, clean energy days. Add in world-class rock climbing and 40 minutes to skiing, and you can see why we channel Yoda. We don’t try. We do. In the 21st century, Las Vegas is the place to Make It.
