SXXpress (South by Express) is a new feature for the SXSW Music & Film Festivals. These passes do not guarantee admission to music venues or film screenings, but will allow badge-holders with these passes to bypass the lines at theaters and music venues and go to the head of the line.
During the Film Festival - Platinum, Film and Gold badges will be allotted two passes per day for film screenings. SXXpress Film passes will guarantee a seat if used no later than 30 minutes before a film starts. If a badge-holder with a SXXpress pass shows up late they will need to proceed to the back of the badge line.
During the Music Festival - Music badges will be allotted one pass per day and Platinum Badges will be allotted two passes per day. When a music venue is at capacity and admitting "one in and one out," the SXXpress passes will be given priority entry over regular badges (without SXXpress passes) and wristbands.
The passes will be distributed on the 4th Floor of the Austin Convention Center near panel room 15. SXXpress passes will be available each day from 10am - 5pm and badge-holders may only pick up passes for that same day of shows. Passes will only be valid when accompanied by a matching badge and entry is subject to capacity. Once SXXpress passes have been distributed to a badge-holder, no transfers or substitutions will be allowed.
Each pass for the Music Festival will contain the registrant's name, the day, date and name of the music venue. SXSW Music Festival will make a determination in advance for each show on how many passes will be issued. Generally, approximately 10% of a venues' capacity will be the number issued. For the Film Festival, each ticket will have the Registrants name, day, film venue, film name, and start time.
The user-interface for the computers at the SXXpress pick-up stations will track both the number of passes each registrant has picked up, along with the total number issued for each venue or theater. When a venue or theater has distributed its allotted number, signage at pick-up will list that particular venue/show/screening as "not available." The system's user-interface will not allow passes to be printed once a music venue or theater has issued all of its passes for that day and/or a registrant has picked up their daily allottment. "Not available" does not mean a show or film screening is sold out, only that there are no more SXXpress passes available. SXSW badge-holders can still gain entry to most clubs and film screenings with their badges, subject to capacity.
