The Jones Family Singers

Written by Tayla Ridley

Bishop Fred Jones, who presides over Mount Zion Church of God In Christ, is joined by five of his daughters, two sons, a grandson, and a son-in-law to produce songs of passion and performances of overwhelming proportions. Hailing from Bay City, Texas, The Jones Family Singers are a dynamic gospel band that have been performing for over two decades.

The Jones Family Singers have already graced the stages of SXSW and ACL Fest eight times. Whether they are performing in front of a sea of people, at a church, or in a prison, The Jones Family Singers deliver what the Austin Chronicle notes as “a live volcano in a forest of soul.”

This family affair brings a contemporary vibe to deeply rooted lyrics of praise. With an R&B and funk sound, The Jones Family Singers showcase the family’s musical talent, including the powerhouse vocals.

After contributing a few songs to accompany a documentary for Austin filmmaker Alan Berg, The Jones Family Singers realized they had enough tracks to release their first full-length studio album. The Spirit Speaks will be released April 1st, 2014 via Arts + Labor.

Meanwhile, The Jones Family Singers are sure to put on a sensational performance during SXSW this year.
