SXSW 2014 Band Mozes & the Firstborn

Since their inception in 2012, lo-fi garage quartet, Mozes & the Firstborn have quickly been making a name for themselves in the underground rock scene. Hailing all the way from Eindhoven, The Netherlands, their first EP, I Got Skills, caught the attention of California label, Burger Records, who will be releasing their first self-titled LP in the US on February 11th. The release comes just in time for the band's SXSW debut this March.

Last September, the group had the chance to perform at Germany's largest club festival, Reeperbahn, held annually in Hamburg. They were also enlisted by Burger to record their rendition of "Lady Godiva's Operation" for a tribute to Velvet Underground's White Light/White Heat album alongside bands such as Natural Child and Gap Dream. You can check out Burger Records' SoundCloud page to stream those.

Mozes & the Firstborn last visited Austin in the fall of 2013 when they played direct support for another favorite Backbeat artist, Oklahoma's BRONCHO, at Stubb's. For those who reside in Austin, you can catch the guys again pre-South By at The Mohawk on Wednesday, February 5th alongside fellow Burger artist, together PANGEA. They are touring now through the end of June in the US, Canada and overseas and you can see a full list of tour dates on their official website.

Tune into The Backbeat this week to hear tracks from Mozes & the Firstborn's first LP. The weekly rock specialty show airs every Friday at 6am, noon, 6pm and midnight. Tune in here on your mobile device or desktop, or check out SXSWfm's SoundCloud to listen all the time.
