SXSW 2014 Artist: Aer

Things are looking up for the Boston duo Aer. David Von Mering and Carter Schultz’s fresh culmination of hip-hop and reggae with smooth guitar riffs has brought them a lot of attention both on and off the charts, and the attention will only continue to grow with the release of their second album and their SXSW 2014 appearance.

After a couple of mixtapes, Aer released their first EP What You Need in late 2011. In 2012, Aer performed at Bamboozle, sharing the stage with Action Bronson, A$AP Rocky, and Iggy Azalea. Soon after came the release of their debut album The Bright Side, which quickly hit the number one spot on the iTunes Album Chart and even made an appearance on the Billboard Hot 100.

Aer started the new year off strongly and they show no signs of coasting through the rest of 2014. Aer released the music video for their single “She Says She Loves Me” within the first week of January, dropped their second album, Aer, on January 21st. Their current Word Of Mouth Tour will be supported by another SXSW 2014 band, RDGLDGRN.

With Aer, Carter and David show artistic versatility and lyrical progression. The 12 tracks touch on all aspects of love; the first meet, the hook up, the break up. Carter’s blunt lyrics are accompanied by David’s intrepid beats that resemble a hint of Sublime and The Dirty Heads.
