Quebec's annual POP Montreal International Music Festival celebrated its 12th year running this past week, September 25-29. Similar to SXSW, the five day event strives to showcase emerging and established musicians from all over the globe in a number of venues across the city of Montreal. They present more than 600 artists annually.
There are several Backbeat favorites who hit the stages, including our recently spotlighted artist Mississippi native, Dent May. The indie rocker has a newly released third studio album, entitled Warm Blanket, that dropped on Paw Tracks at the end of August. Since then, he has been touring the US and Canada and will embark abroad at the end of October with dates scheduled in Sweden, Denmark, and Croatia.
Another act to have rocked the festival is Backbeat regular, Hunters, who're releasing a self-titled new album today, Tuesday, October 1st. They'll be swinging back through Austin this November to perform a Fun Fun Fun Fest Nites show followed by a string of dates with Burger Records garage punk band, Audacity. Playlist regulars Chappo and The Dodos also played POP Montreal 2013.
Tune into The Backbeat, SXSWfm's weekly rock show, to hear all of these artists and more. It airs every Tuesday at 6am, 12pm, and 6pm CDT; Wednesday at 12am CDT, and Saturday at 11pm CDT.
