We're very excited to note that SXSW 2014 will mark a breakout performance from Norwegian psych/blues rock band, Atlanter. The Oslo based quartet consists of singer/guitarist Jens Carelius, known for his unique fingerpicking skills, singer/guitarist Arild Hammerø, drummer Jonas Barsten Johnsen, and bassist Morten Kvam.
Their nine-song debut album, Vidde, was released just this past August on Norwegian label Jansen Plateproduksjon and received an impressive 7/10 rating from NME. The group also performed at this year's Øya Festival in Oslo alongside other Backbeat favorites Cat Power, Parquet Courts, Tame Impala, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
The record was written entirely by the band, and Hammerø had this to say about their group and music: "Atlanter has an open-minded approach to playing music. The songs change from one concert to another, and we try to avoid a polished and rehearsed sound. I think everyone in the band enjoys this openness, that something new can happen on every song. We captured this feeling on the record too, and what brings it all together is that it is mostly based on very distinct rhythms. Playing with Atlanter is like dancing around a fire, there is an intense energy there. Our goal is for the audience to feel this energy too, so they can join in on the dance."
You can stream Vidde via their Soundcloud.
