Nardwuar + Haim = Magic

Created by L Park on May 31, 2013

Nardwuar vs HAIM - SXSW Music 2013 from SXSW on Vimeo.

This is not just magical camerawork by the King of Spring Break (pictured below), but magic all around as the groovy gals of Haim pay homage to Nardwuar, the most ultimate interviewer ever.

It's a mystery how Nardwuar discovers the many bits and pieces of trivia that he does about any artist he's interviewing. It's pretty much the best thing ever, the looks of joy, surprise, and sometimes consternation on the faces of his subjects.

Nashville pop-country artist Caitlin Rose released her sophomore album, The Stand-In, back in March on ATO Records. After releasing her debut, Own Side Now, in 2010, Rose came back stronger than ever with an album that roots music blog No Depression called “an enriching and terribly gorgeous experience.”

With a long list of influences, Rose has a certain soft spot for covers and she includes two on the new album: “I Was Cruel” by The Deep Vibration and “Dallas” by The Felice Brothers. Producers and songwriters Jordan Lehning and Skylar Wilson, known for their work with Justin Townes Earle, helped Rose create a sentimental album.

Stay tuned to SXSWfm to hear Caitlin Rose and more SXSW Showcasing Artists. Thank you for listening!

Monday, July 1 marks the first day of entry for the 2014 SXSW PanelPicker process.

Based on our numbers from last year, SXSW Interactive expects to receive more than 3000 speaking proposals before this entry process closes at the end of the day on Friday, July 26.

So how can you ensure that your amazing idea doesn't get lost in the mix? Crafting a great title is an obvious (but often overlooked) aspect of a successful proposal. A great title simply and accurately and succinctly reflects the focus of your idea, such that people can understand what your session will cover even without reading your description.

Tim League Joins the SXSW V2V Lineup

Tim League Photo by Annie RayPhoto by Annie RayAlamo Drafthouse CEO and Founder Tim League will joining us in Las Vegas this summer at the inaugural SXSW V2V as a part of our 20/20 Vision speaker series. We couldn't be more thrilled that he will be able to share his vast entrepreneurial experience and vision with our attendees.

Tim League graduated from Rice University in 1992 with degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Art/Art History. After a two-year stint at Shell Oil in Bakersfield, California, Tim left engineering and opened up his first movie theater. When that theater closed after a short run in 1995, he and his wife Karrie headed to Austin with 200 seats, a projector, screen, speakers and a passion to do it right the second time. They founded the Alamo Drafthouse in 1997, where as CEO League remains committed to providing creative programming and a zero tolerance policy for disruption during the theater experience. League also co-founded Fantastic Fest, the largest genre film festival in the United States and recently launched Drafthouse Films, a distribution label committed to releasing provocative, visionary and unusual films from around the world. Past releases include critically-acclaimed comedies FOUR LIONS and KLOWN, the rediscovered classic WAKE IN FRIGHT, and the Oscar-nominated BULLHEAD. When asked about his early qualifications for opening a movie theater, League answered "none, other than really liking movies, which I guess is the most important part." The Alamo Drafthouse is expanding nationwide to New York, San Francisco, Dallas, and Washington DC, with many more on the horizon.

As you all know, just over a week ago a deadly tornado hit Moore, Oklahoma, a town just south of Oklahoma City.

Native Oklahoman Wayne Coyne, lead singer of 2013 Grulke Prize Winning band The Flaming Lips, spoke of the resilience of his fellow citizens and delivered passionate opening remarks at their London show the day after the disaster.
