2013 Showcasing Artist John Baizley

Have you ever listened to John Baizley’s band, Baroness? You should. The first song I heard by Baroness was “Wanderlust”. I was blown away by the sheer POWER of the music. A stone wall of sound, like Mastodon or Electric Wizard. Behind the work of the sludge metal band is the very creative and talented John Baizley. The man is performing some acoustic sets at SXSW Music 2013, and we think they will take on a significantly different atmosphere than a Baroness show. Look for him at Flatstock too!

Listen to John Baizley and more SXSW Showcasing Artists on SXSWfm. Stay tuned and check the SXSWfm blog for daily updates 24/7, year-round. Thank you for listening!

2013 Showcasing Artist Dessa

Dessa’s voice is beautiful, and her vocal patterns are complex. In “Dixon’s Girl,” she integrates a hip-hop style with smooth vocal melodies. But it's the production that truly makes the song: you can close your eyes and picture yourself in a jazz club. The instruments and vocals play off of each other.
