Fitz and the Tantrums

Created by Rory on May 10, 2013

Fitz and the Tantrums (from Los Angeles, CA)

Fitz and the Tantrums went into the studio to record their second full-length, More Than Just a Dream, with the goal of moving away from the retro sound that embodied 2010’s Pickin’ Up the Pieces. Released this Tuesday, May 7, More Than Just a Dream was produced by Tony Hoffer, whose body of work includes mixing duties for Beck and Silversun Pickups. The new record features “thick walls of synthesizers and club-ready beats” that were a result of the band focusing “on making it a fun record,” according to The Columbus Dispatch. The band will be on tour throughout the US this summer, including a stop in Austin on July 13!

SXSWfm Featured Artist of the Week: The Flaming Lips (from Oklahoma City, OK) (Photo by George Salisbury)

Written by Andy Flynn

We go way back with the Lips. They've showcased many times, debuted albums, shown films and spoken at panels and interviews. They played The Soft Bulletin here first. They conducted The Parking Lot Experiment and turned showcases into parades down Sixth Street. This March, The Flaming Lips were among the inaugural recipients of the Grulke Prize, SXSW's recognition of creativity and the best new music played on our stages. They debuted their new album, The Terror, before tens of thousands of fans at the SXSW Auditorium Shores Stage. They chose to play new songs and display new stagecraft. Their spirit inspires SXSW and their ever-expanding audience. Listen to the The Flaming Lips today on SXSWfm.
