Chevrolet is back for another year as a SXSW Super Sponsor with exciting plans across SXSWeek.

In a nod to the interactive spirit of SXSW, Chevrolet will provide opportunities for registrants to interact with the latest Chevrolet vehicles - like the 2013 Malibu - through the Catch-a-Chevy and Drive-a-Chevy programs. The interactive experience with Chevy vehicles won't end at a free ride or a simple test drive though, registrants will be able to get a hands-on look into the Chevrolet's newest innovative technologies, discover music they love, and explore the ins and outs of SXSW.

SXSWfm Featured Song: “The Symbol” by Action Bronson

2013 SXSW Showcasing Artist Action Bronson

The first thing that jumps out about “The Symbol” by Action Bronson is the old-school rock beat. Electric guitars, groovy bass, and relaxed drums combine to form a sound that is reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix. The man is a native of New York, and the listener can tell. “The Symbol” is a great example of how hip-hop is, and always will be, local. The MC has a classic east coast delivery that is easy-going yet powerful.

Listen to Action Bronson and more SXSW Showcasing Artists on SXSWfm. Stay tuned and check the SXSWfm blog for daily updates 24/7, year-round. Thank you for listening!

Day One – Bre Pettis Opening Remarks Community Recap

Created by tammy on March 8, 2013

Bre Pettis illustration by ImageThinkBig thanks to our friends at ImageThink!

We took the time to check out Bre Pettis, our Opening Remarks speaker and the CEO of MakerBot, today in Exhibit Hall 5 at 2pm. Pettis talked about how his company seeks to empower people to fundamentally alter the global supply chain, change the way businesses interact with customers and make their own stuff.

Highlights included: MakerBot's Thingiverse currently has more than 40K things to choose from (and 3D print) so the layperson doesn't even have to know CAD! Pettis emphasized that his goal is to make hardware accessible, fun and playful using the example of a Duplo / Brio connector that didn't exist before the advent of commercial 3D printing. On a more intensely heartfelt note, Pettis showed the audience how 3D printing has allowed children who need prosthetics to print out Robohands to enhance and increase their mobility.

Bre Pettis by TLGBre Pettis by Tammy Lynn GilmorePettis also used the platform at SXSW Interactive to make two compelling announcements for the Makersphere. He unveiled a MakerBot Digitizer Prototype that uses lasers to scan and collate points on a real-world object and wraps it all up into a 3D model. On his slide, he described the Digitizer thusly:

What is Kefir?

If you walk away from reading this with one thing, Lifeway Foods would like it to be this: kefir is not yogurt. So what is kefir? Well, like yogurt, kefir is a low-fat cultured dairy food rich in calcium and protein. Unlike yogurt, kefir is made with 12 different live & active cultures, and it’s cultured for 14 hours, giving it a higher probiotic count than yogurt and an effervescent, tangy flavor. (Seven to 10 billion units in a serving – dang!)

The LP Questionnaire - Adam Cayton-Holland

ACH

Adam Cayton-Holland's Wikipedia page says he has a recurring dream that he is a pancake who is terrified of maple syrup. This entry also says "citation needed" which makes it quite a mystery but as with the X-Files, the truth is out there. Or was that Star Trek?

He told us that the first concert he ever went to was when he was five. It was Michael Jackson's Thriller and it ruled.

Cayton-Holland plays adult, co-ed indoor soccer and takes it way too seriously. He said, "I don't go easy on the girls. Because that is true feminism. Plus it helps pad my stats."
