We have all been in situations where our deep rooted animal instinct kicks in and rears its growling head. In the 1990s, philosophers introduced a self-concept that they dubbed the Theory of Animalism, which supports the idea that certain human conditions such as persistence are similar to those of animals. This week's Four on the Floor will have you asking yourself the question, "What is my spirit animal?"
Today we're featuring four artists who channeled their animalistic nature into their band names.
DREAM KOALA (Paris FRANCE)
Young up-and-coming French producer and electronic artist Dream Koala will be making his way out to us this March for his very first SXSW performance. If you're into ambient electronica and chillwave tunes, this dude is for you. You may have also heard his remix of Banks' song "Change" that came out earlier this year.
RIYL: Lapalux, Mount Kimbie
HIPPO CAMPUS (Minneapolis MN)
Another first timer we're excited to see is brand new indie pop quartet Hippo Campus. Shockingly enough, the whole band just graduated from high school last year! Their debut EP, entitled Bashful Creatures, dropped late this past November. Keep an eye out for these talented young'uns as they're sure to be making waves in the near future.
RIYL: Vampire Weekend, Ra Ra Riot
WHITEHORSE (Toronto CANADA)
Canadian singer-songwriter duo and SXSW regulars Whitehorse will also be returning to Austin this spring. The harmonic pair's music is heavily folk and blues rock influenced and they'll be coming to the festival right on the heels of their sophomore LP release, Leave No Bridge Unburned, due out on Six Shooter Records in February.
RIYL: Neko Case, The Black Keys
THE STONE FOXES (San Francisco CA)
San Francisco rockers The Stone Foxes will be joining us for their second SXSW performance. Not only will this group melt your face off during their live performances, but they'll also inspire you to be a do-gooder. Earlier this year they began "The Goodnight Moon Project" which aims to destigmatize homelessness.
RIYL: The Sheepdogs, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears
