SXSW 2011 Music Panels Podcast: Producing in the 21st Century
Budgets are small, retail is dying, studios are closing, fed up audiences are taking music at will...yet devoted music professionals continue to make records for a living. How are they doing it? How are they getting paid? What type of contracts are they commanding? In a world where the "record" has become an artists' business card, how will the producer and mixer derive participatory income? Are studio professionals being left out of the so-called 360 deals?
Moderated by producer Jesse Lauter, this panel addressed the obstacles that many producers are facing these days. Jesse was joined by Larry Crane, Editor/Founder Tape Op/Jackpot! Recording, producer and drummer for Small Black Jeff Curtin, producer Bill Moriarty and producer Dan Romer.
