Music Panelist Spotlight: Molly Neuman

molly_neuman_0.jpgMolly Neuman is definitely a been there, done that kind of gal. A founding member of the band Bratmobile, she has been an artist manager, label owner and now is a label relations executive for eMusic. On top of that, Molly is also a natural foods chef/nutritional consultant. It's her chef/consultant hat that she will be wearing when she moderates the panel Steady Diet of Nothing: The Road to Health during the SXSW 2011 Music Conference. Molly was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

Who are you/ what do you do?
I'm Molly and like any self respecting Gemini, I do all sorts of incongruous things which I'm trying to make work together. For the last 20 years I've been working in the music business, first as a drummer, then as a label lady, then as a manager and now as a digital retail label and artist relations type.

A few years ago I decided to go to culinary school with an emphasis in natural and healing foods. And I'm a punk.

What will you be talking about on your panel?
We're going to be talking about health and wellness strategies for touring musicians (and those that work with them). We will be going over tour riders, meal plans (some you can even make backstage), how to order at all sorts of restaurants, shopping lists for the van/bus, yoga and exercises you can do any place anytime to help you feel better and heal yourself on the road.

What are you looking forward to this year at SXSW?
Seeing friends, seeing friends' bands, seeing friends' new bands, breakfast tacos, Sounds from Spain afternoon party.

Any advice you can give to someone who's never been to SXSW before?
Pace yourself, try to build some time for yourself into your schedule. I'm lucky enough to be able to stay at a hotel with a rooftop pool and I love getting up a bit early to swim and clear my head before the noise and bustle takes over.

Do you have a favorite SXSW memory?
In 1998 Delta 72 outside at Emo's. Those who were there will remember why.

And finally, your top five albums/cds you can't live without?
Rites of Spring, Rites of Spring
Minor Threat, Out of Step
Sheila E., The Glamorous Life
Oasis, Definitely Maybe
Kill Rock Stars, Kill Rock Stars Compilation
