'Looking for a New England' Showcases the Best of New British Folk
Celebrating the reinvigorated English folk scene has become so popular in the UK that Parliament actually held a recent session on “Performing Englishness”. British Underground, the people responsible for Amy Winehouse’s, Jamie Cullen’s and KT Tunstall’s incredibly successful SXSW/US debuts, are bringing the most acclaimed crop of new British folkies to Austin under the banner of Looking for a New England — British folk tradition, with a twist.
Jim Moray, Olivia Chaney, The Unthanks, Jackie Oates, Trembling Bells and Gadarene represent the breathtaking range of new talent and creativity bubbling up all over the country, shaking up preconceived notions about folk music. Award-winners, chart-toppers and critics’ darlings all, the musicians of Looking for a New England are sure to deliver a not-to-be missed set on Friday, March 19 at St David’s Church.
Be sure to register today and add these acts to your SXSW 2010 schedule, March is fast approaching!
