To quote Kierkegaard by way of Wayne's World, "Once you label me, you negate me." While we have divided the SXSW Interactive Web Awards into 18 entry categories and ask that you label your website when submitting it for consideration, be assured that we would never think of negating you.
Quite the contrary: We want to celebrate you, the essence of your work, and what attracts people to it. We're confident that the award categories provide focus and get as many creators, content-generators, and innovators involved as possible.
Maybe you're still not sure which category best fits your website, but you're set on entering as the Friday, Dec. 18, Web Awards submission deadline nears. Before we get into this week's category primer, keep in mind that you can enter your site into multiple categories. Please see our Web Awards FAQ for more details.
With that, let's take a closer look at four of the Web Awards submission categories:
Film / TV: Sites related to actors, television, films and the film industry, as well as destinations that offer streaming video content. 2009 Web Awards Winner: Hulu
Games: The online destinations that help make your life a lot more fun. This includes game sites and flash-based games. 2009 Web Awards Winner: Why So Serious? The Dark Knight Alternate Reality Game
Mobile: Sites optimized for handheld and portable devices. This also includes mobile apps for iPhone, Blackberry, Android and the like. 2009 Web Awards Winner: Gigotron
Music: Sites related to musicians, bands, and the music industry, as well online radio and other destinations that offer streaming audio content. 2009 Web Awards Winner: James Zabiela
We hope this helps. Next week, we'll home in on four more categories. In the meantime, e-mail us with specific questions.
