Through the Lens: Screenburn Puts Film and Gaming in Focus

Arcade-2.jpgScreenburn at SXSW is all about bringing people together. SXSW has been a breeding ground for many beautiful relationships. A good example of that is the crossover that exists between film and gaming. Film is one of the oldest forms of contemporary entertainment and helped to lay the foundation for storytelling in gaming. Machinima is a perfect example of a hybrid of the two, bringing games to life and adding a unique cinematic feel to the experience.

Recently, Watchmen director Zack Snyder signed a deal with EA for three new titles. Peter Sciretta, a blogger for /Film, quoted Snyder as saying, “A dialogue needs to be established between filmmakers and game producers. It’s not marketing; it can’t be an afterthought.” Thus, a film director finds a new home in the world of video games.

Screenburn at SXSW could be the launchpad you need, and who knows, maybe your film or gaming repertoire could help make your game release go from indie obscurity to triple A status. To get involved in ScreenBurn at SXSW, contact Lindsay Muse.
