Tom Blankenship of My Morning Jacket is heading to SXSW to bring me coffee and entertain me with his new Monchichi haircut. (True story.)
He's also doing the Quickie "In the Studio" where he will dispense wisdom on what it's like to record with a giant stuffed bear with a cigarette in its mouth staring at you the entire time. (Another true story.)
I asked him if he had any fun facts to share for his intro, but I typoed "Fun Fats" by mistake. His answer "Crisco, trans, saturated. The most fun is bacon, though," made me remember why I married the dude. (I think.)
Some actual fun factoids about Mr. T... he shares a name with the real Huck Finn, wore nothing but pink Chuck Taylors in the 5th grade and has a beard consisting of three separate patches of facial hair, none of which connect.
He was nice enough to do a Pick Three... One of these would be my choice, too, I have to say (Marco Benevento)...
PICK THREE
Marco Benevento Trio: Love this rekkid. And he's being joined by the insanely creative, amazing rhythm section of Marc Friedman & Andrew Barr. Yay!
Dan Auerbach: Can't pass up a chance to be wowed by Mr. Hallahan from the opposite side of the stage. Looking forward to experiencing Dan in full-band mode.
Wax Fang: Eerie, explosive, gorgeous and my favorite live band. Ever.
[Ed note: Does that Wax Fang pic remind anyone else of that scene in Tapeheads where they shoot the Cube Squared "Baby Doll" video? No? Just me?]
Only five more features left before the big dealio gets underway! I think I've got just enough pith left in me to make it. We certainly do hope you've enjoyed your time spent here. Poop's about to get real, yo!
