SXSW will see two of Canada and electronic music's most visionary and influential artists 'in conversation', capping off our convergence-focused Music programming on Tuesday, March 12th at the Austin Convention Center. In a world exclusive for SXSW, techno and technology adventurer and world-leading DJ Richie Hawtin will engage on-stage with deadmau5 – one of the most globally-renowned electronic artists period. Together, they are considered the most innovative in terms of music's interaction with technology. "deadmau5 & Richie Hawtin: Talk. Techno. Technology." will see both artists discuss their careers with a huge focus on innovations in technology and the power of social media.
Jonathan Toubin, a former Austinite and well-known DJ, possesses an interesting and varied collection of records along with an amazing story of survival.
I remember seeing a friend's post on Facebook in December 2011 talking about how her pal had been in a freak accident in Portland and went on to read the horrific account of how Toubin, in town for a gig, was run over by a taxi in his hotel room. It was unclear at the time if he would make it but five months later he was back on the decks, spinning again despite massive hearing loss.
It doesn’t get much better than spending the day on a breezy balcony overlooking the crowds of Sixth Street during SXSW Music. Add in 12 top-notch bands from around the world and you have the Sonicbids Official SXSW Party at Maggie Mae’s, presented by JanSport. The annual party begins bright and (almost) early at 11:30am on Friday, March 15th. The party takes over both floors of Maggie Mae’s allowing for non-stop music into the early evening.
