What is event cinema? It really just boils down to “alternative film content.” For Grant Calton, John Rubey and Kymberli Frueh-Owens, it means more than just that vague descriptor - it’s about bringing rock music and musicians to the big screen all over the world.

Many artists of different eras and genres have had their performances broadcasted in the cinema, including Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourne and Bon Jovi. This combination of rock music and film isn’t just limited to single performances; full music festivals and artist Q&A’s have also been broadcasted live.

Watch Event Cinema: Taking Rock ‘n’ Roll to the Big Screen at SXSW 2014 today to learn more about this rapidly growing global market. The three speakers discussed the history of event cinema as well as what it means for musicians and the industry going forward. The full video is available here.
