Paste Magazine is celebrating a decade as a media supporter of the SXSW Music Festival next week with two day parties, March 12 - 13 at Swan Dive (615 Red River). The lineups include performances by Lucius, Rodney Crowell, and Matisyahu, as well as up-and-comers like Ski Lodge, Split Single and more!
While SXSW does include performances from veteran artists, we have always been about breaking new bands. Paste Magazine has long been a facilitator for helping the younger acts break through and find success after the festival.
The publication has fully embodied this for the last ten years - according to Co-Founder and Editor-In-Chief Josh Jackson, “The directive that we give to our music editors is, ‘Don't just see bands you already know.’ One year, I spent a couple of hours walking up Sixth Street and Red River and stopping in every venue that had live music playing and staying for at least a song.”
Another way Paste embraces the SXSW culture of discovery is through its annual day parties, where they not only book that year’s buzz bands but they also give music fans a chance to see quality obscure artists. The type of exposure Paste provides to these artists both during and after the SXSW Music Festival has contributed greatly to the success of so many bands throughout the past decade.
