Before filming started on "The Osbournes," Sharon Osbourne appeared at SXSW 2001 in a featured interview conducted by Rolling Stone's David Fricke. The idea to present the interview came from a feature in the August 2000 SPIN Magazine, written by long-time friend of SXSW Pat Blashill. (You can read the article starting on page 107 at this Google Books archive.)
The SXSW session was compelling, with Osbourne explaining how she championed Ozzy and played industry hardball to defend her clients. A jab or two was directed at Billy Corgan, who had briefly worked with her. Within a year, Osbourne was a television star, and has remained in the spotlight ever since.
