Music Throwback: Big Star at SXSW

Written by Andy Flynn | September 4, 2014

Big Star, the greatly influential Memphis-based band, has had a central role at SXSW throughout the years. The story of their formation, recordings, and unlikely influence on the 1980s American indie scene have been covered at panels and performances several times.

The untimely death of Alex Chilton on the eve of SXSW 2010 changed the planned events of that year into an emotionally charged wake. Jody Stephens participates in conference events every year, lending his knowledge to a new generation of musicians. We're happy to note events such as the show highlighting the Big Star Third album last weekend at Bumbershoot, and look forward to seeing Jody next March.
