SXSW 2014 Music Speaker: Linda Rose

Very briefly, what do you do and what is your session about?

I’m an immigration attorney and a jazz musician. The session is about immigration issues for musicians and music industry professionals.

How/why did you get started in the music industry?

Music is my passion (www.RoseOnVibes.com). Immigration law is my love (www.roseImmigration.com).

How many years have you attended/spoke at SXSW in the past? If this is your first time at SXSW, what are you expecting?

First time attendee/speaker. I’m looking for a blast of music experiences. I can hardly wait.

Best thing that’s happened in music in the last year?

Release of my CD! Well, it was the best thing for me. For the industry itself? Not sure.

Favorite new app/service/tech development in music?

One of the things I hope to learn about at SXSW is how I can better use technology. I’d say I’m a behind in this regard.

What’s the biggest issue facing the music business today? Can it be overcome?

Musicians are underpaid. I see that especially in Nashville, Music City USA. Isn’t that ironic.

What artist(s) are you most looking forward to seeing perform at SXSW 2014?

Looking forward to the world music performances.

Tacos or BBQ?

Tacos, as long as they’re vegetarian . . . or fish.
