SXSW Alumni & Grammy Winner Gary Clark, Jr.

The 56th annual Grammy Awards took place in Los Angeles last night and it was quite a ceremony. Between great performances by Gary Clark, Jr. and Chicago, as well as a Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr reunion, several SXSW Music alumni took home awards.

SXSW 2013 Music Keynote Speaker Dave Grohl, along with Paul McCartney and former Nirvana bandmates Krist Novoselic (SXSW Music 1996 Keynote) and Pat Smear, won the award for Best Rock Song for “Cut Me Some Slack,” a song they collaborated on for the 2013 film Sound City. Dave Grohl performed as part of the Sound City Players showcase at the SXSW 2013 Music Festival.

Hip hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis nearly swept their categories, winning Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Album.

Past SXSW speaker Paul Williams, who collaborated with Daft Punk on their album Random Access Memories, was there to accept the electronic duo's award for Album of the Year. You can see Paul Williams speaking at the SXSW 2012 Music Conference below.

Other SXSW alumni highlights include: Vampire Weekend winning Best Alternative Music Album with Modern Vampires of the City; electronic music producer Zedd taking Best Dance Recording with “Clarity”; Gary Clark, Jr. earning the award for Best Traditional R&B Performance for his song “Please Come Home”; and Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell receiving the honor for Best Americana Album for Old Yellow Moon.
