Young, talented and humble, could describe this week's highlight of Nottingham-born, SXSW 2013 Official Showcasing Artist, Jake Bugg. With influences like the band Oasis, Jake shot his way to the top of the indie rock and singer-songwriter genres, with his self-titled album, which was released in October 2012 in the United Kingdom.
At only 19 years of age, his vocals emote a sense of a hopeless, romantic old soul, while the lyrics speak are more political and indicative than you'd think would come from a typical teenager. Soon after it's release, the album towered the top of the charts as number one selling album in the UK.
"The number one shouldn’t have happened," said the modest teen in a 2012 interview with British news source, Telegraph "It was my first album... I wasn’t expecting it to go anywhere."
But number one it went, and it wasn't long until Jake Bugg was on his way to the US with a SXSW 2013 performance in March and and a US release of his album in April. One of his top single tracks, "Lightning Bolt," (seen above) begins with a catchy, 3-chord rhythm and lead up to a powerful up-beat chorus. It's also been featured in a few commercials here in the States.
You can catch Jake Bugg playing this weekend in Chicago and will be coming back to Austin in October for the Austin City Limits Festival.
