SXSW Music Sends Condolences to Caspian

Written by Stacey Wilhelm | August 28, 2013

Chris Friedrich of CaspianSXSW alumni Caspian announced today on their Facebook that their bass player, Chris Friedrich, unexpectedly passed away this past Sunday. No details were given, but the band expressed their grief and request for privacy in a heartfelt note to fans. Most recently, the band celebrated that they will be supporting Finnish "love metal" act HIM on a European tour this October. The news came in the wake of recent festival performances and their own North American and European tour announcements.

The remaining members of Caspian will still perform their scheduled show this weekend, August 31, in Manchester, NH at The Engine Room. The show is a benefit for a dear friend of Friedrich's, Jake Lusona, who is battling Cystic Fibrosis and facing a double lung transplant. Caspian's performance is not only to benefit this cause that was dear to their bandmate's heart, but now also in tribute to him.

Our thoughts are with Caspian and all of Chris Friedrich's family and friends.
