Four on the Floor: Houston Rappers

Written by Rory Burbeck | November 26, 2013

We continue our Four on the Floor series by taking a look at four rappers from a city known for its hip-hop: Houston, Texas. There are way too many incredible MCs out of Houston, so don’t expect this to be the only post focusing on SXSW 2014 artists from this great hip-hop city. For now, sit back, relax, and dig the beats.

DELOREAN

Influenced by Jay-Z, Tupac, and Scarface, Marcus Delorean Roberts began free-styling at an early age. Nicknamed “Delo” by a childhood friend, DeLorean has been busy making a name for himself in the Houston rap scene. His newest mixtape, entitled Grace and released earlier this year, includes appearances from Slim Thug, Bun B, and more.

PROPAIN

Propain was discovered by the legendary rapper Scarface while freestyling at a video shoot during his sophomore year in college. Bun B, another legendary rapper, ended up inviting the young MC to perform at his “Houston for Haiti” benefit concert in 2010. Quite a jump start to what’s sure to be a long career.

CORY MO

Back in 1994, while attending Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, Cory Mo met Pimp C. The two recorded a song together the day they met, and Cory Mo’s career has taken off since then. Cory Mo and his brother, Mike, opened up a recording studio in Houston and relocated it to Atlanta in 2009. Since opening M.A.D. Studios, the brothers have produced the likes of Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, and more.
