From the 2010 LPQ Archive
Deer Tick is a delightful Christian Rap band from Providence, Rhode Island.
John McCauley and Ian O'Neil were kind enough to take part in the goof-fest that is The LP Questionnaire and you'll get a Pick Three courtesy of Mr. McCauley, the California Raisin memorabilia collector (and one of the lead singers and guitarists in the band). McCauley lives in Providence, enjoys rock n roll music, Budweiser Beer and is engaged to to the "lovely Nikki Darlin" of Those Darlins, who are also playing the fest.
O'Neil is the newest member of Deer Tick and was formerly in the band Titus Andronicus. I'm told he is from Massachusetts and is extremely Irish.
And without further ado, you're in for some LPQ treats here...
The LP Questionnaire
Name: John McCauley and Ian O'Neil
Pro Wrestling Names: John: Full Metal Jackal, fuck yeah! Ian: Bionic Butcher
1. Pretend you’re 15. Name three songs you'd put on a mix tape for your girlfriend/boyfriend.
John: The year is 2001 and I am too busy smoking weed, taking pills, and tripping on cough syrup to have a girlfriend. But if I were to make a tape for someone special in 2001 it probably would have contained these three songs: "Sleepwalk" by Santo & Johnny, "Francis Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle" by Nirvana, and "Rock N Roll" by Led Zeppelin.
Ian: Well I'm 14, so this is kind of a hard question. Next year I predict I'll give a girl the pleasure of listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd's "That Smell", Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow's "Picture" (a particularly romantic choice) and maybe "Gary's Got A Boner" by the Replacements.
2. Which evil villain would make the best President?
John: George W. Bush. HA HA HA HA HA!
Ian: Arnold Schwarzenegger's portrayal of "Mr. Freeze"
3. What was your favorite cartoon as a child?
John: Popeye and Tom and Jerry
Ian: Bobby's World
4. What superpower do you wish you had?
John: To make beer and liqour laws disappear.
Ian: Indiana Jones
5. What would the title of your autobiography be?
John: The Long and Winding Turd
Ian: Chicken Noodle Soup for the Teenage Soul: the Ian O'Neil Story
Pick Three (with John McCauley)
I don't want to leave out my friends, but I've already seen all their bands. Needless to say I will still try to catch Those Darlins, Dead Confederate, Dawes, Delta Spirit, These United States, and all my other buddies play as much as possible. But as far as bands I haven't seen play before, I think I am most looking forward to Andrew W.K., Pete Molinari, and Fucked Up. This is our most relaxing SXSW schedule in three years so hopefully I'll have time to do all that.
That was fun, you guys. I will return for the late afternoon edition of Pick Three with MTV's very own James Montgomery. If yer bored, you can always read what everyone else had to say... the archive is building with goodies from the likes of Patterson Hood (Drive-By Truckers), Hardy Morris (Dead Confederate) and MORE. Peep it here.
Consider this a sign, lp
