Welcome to SXSW Eco Forward, where we take a look at what initiatives past SXSW Eco speakers and organizations are working on now. Today we're highlighting two previous keynotes, “The Story of Stuff” creator, Annie Leonard (2012), and street artist Shepard Fairey (2013).
On Tuesday, Greenpeace USA announced that Annie Leonard, creator of The Story of Stuff, will be the new executive director for the organization. Annie will take the place of outgoing executive director, Phil Radford, this coming August. In 2012, Annie gave a memorable closing keynote at SXSW Eco where she discussed our overuse of the world’s resources and encouraged attendees to take action to make the world a better place.
We think Annie will make an excellent addition to the Greenpeace team and wish her the best of luck in her new role!
Last week, it was announced that street artist Shepard Fairey will curate a major art show for this year’s Lollapalooza festival. Entitled “Art Alliance: The Provocateurs,” the show will include a range of street, poster and illustrative work. According to the Chicago Tribune, details are still being finalized, but the show’s producers are expecting 5,000 attendees daily.
Last year, Shepard’s keynote address, “Art- The Link Between Hearts and Minds,” dealt with the use of art to impact culture.
Register to attend SXSW Eco 2014 to join in on all the exciting programming happening this October. Stay tuned for more announcements coming soon!
