The SXSW Interactive scholarship program recognizes individuals from all sectors across the globe who are using new media to push the boundaries of tackling community problems. Nonprofit leaders, grassroots organizers, individual citizens, and civic-minded entrepreneurs are all eligible. We focus on people whose work (whether it's a job, a hobby or volunteer) helps people through technology. For this scholarship, we sought undiscovered creative talents who can use the springboard of SXSW Interactive to make connections in the tech sector. Check out the photos and bios below to meet the community heroes who will be recognized for their good work at SXSW in March in Austin.

Futurist, science fiction author and cyberpunk pioneer, Bruce Sterling is set to wrap up SXSW Interactive 2013 in his inimitable way. Tuesday, March 12, 2013 will bring Bruce Sterling's traditional closing remarks. An acclaimed science fiction novelist, a frequent contributor to Wired and a brilliant cultural and social analyst, Sterling's solo presentations are legendary for their humor, satire and poignancy. Coiner of neologisms such as "spime" and "slipstream," Sterling will give his unique vision of the state of tech now and the way of things to come. If you've never seen Sterling speak to his people, this unique presentation is a can't miss. No SXSW trip is complete until you hear his overview of the event! Keep up with Sterling's musings on his Wired blog.
A communal networking hub amongst the SXSW Trade Show bustle, the Meet Up Pavilion is the place to rub elbows with other peers and professionals who share your interests, passions and concerns. After a successful debut during SXSW 2012, we are expanding our agency and job-seeker mingling event into: I Met My Agency @ SXSW. This four day series allows registrants dedicated time to meet with their future employers. Check the Meet Up Page for other events, including networking for startups and investors, futurists, and online activists. Check back for an updated schedule.
Community is the heart of everything that we do at the SXSW Interactive Festival. To this end, we are very proud that so many community do-gooders and leaders from the non-profit world congregate in Austin each March for the event. Recognizing the best of the best of these community do-gooders and leaders from the non-profit world is the basis for the annual Dewey Winburne Community Service Award.
Posted below are the 10 honorees for this award for 2013. Several of these honorees came to our attention via the SXSW Interactive Scholarship Program. Please join us on the evening of Sunday, March 10 for a special ceremony for these Dewey Award honorees. The ceremony on Sunday, March 10, 2013 is free and open to the public (a SXSW badge is not required to attend). Stay tuned to this website for more details on location.
