SXSW Cares! by Hugh MacLeodSXSW Cares! by Hugh MacLeodIn 2011, the SXSW community helped raise more than $125,000 for tsunami disaster relief funds for the Red Cross via the pop-up website SXSW4Japan. This incredible on-site fund-raising effort helped demonstrate how much this community cares about those in need of assistance. In 2013, we are again invoking this spirit of generosity to help two very worthy charitable organizations.

Architecture for Humanity logoA nonprofit design services firm dedicated to building a more sustainable future through the power of professional design, Architecture for Humanity is comprised of over 50,000 professionals lending time and services to help those who would not otherwise be able to afford their services. The specific project that SXSW-related donations will benefit within AFH is Rebuild One Block which seeks to revitalize a New York neighborhood that was initially devastated by 9/11, then suffered more significant damage during Hurricane Sandy. EFF logoDedicated to defending free speech, privacy, innovation and consumer rights in the digital realm, the Electronic FrontierFoundation was founded in 1990. Today EFF continues to champion the public interest in critical legal battles affecting digital rights. Donations made to EFF during SXSW will help the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and other activists in the campaign to reform the antiquated computer crime and copyright laws that were used in the relentless prosecution of digital activist and open source advocate Aaron Swartz.
