If you want to leverage the 2014 SXSW Interactive to its fullest, then buying a badge is your best option. If buying a badge is completely out of the question, then remember that there are many different FREE events and activities at the 2014 SXSW Interactive Festival.
One of the first of the free events occurs Friday evening, March 7 at 6:00 pm at the George Washington Carver Museum located at 1165 Angelina St. As the kick off event for the MVMT50 weekend, this get-together offers the perfect networking opportunity to renew connections and sync up itineraries for the weekend. Featuring free-flowing libations (as well as a Texas-inspired hors d’ oeuvres menu), this event allows you to explore a sector of SXSW that is growing rapidly in popularity and strength.
This March 7 gathering will also feature the presentation of the Top Ten Innovator Awards recognizing the top ten African Americans who made the biggest impact in 2013. And you can’t experience the Live Music Capital Music of the World™ without live music – right? We’ll have a sizzling live soul auditory experience for your pleasure. When was the last time you witnessed an orchestral ensemble of up to 20 pieces at a Hip-Hop concert? Well, that is but a fraction of what you will get when you catch Thee Phantom in action - picture B-Boy meets Beethoven! The evening also features DJ Phife spinning the best in eclectic neo-sounds.
The festivities on Friday evening, March 7 at the George Washington Carver Museum are free — no SXSW badge is required for entry. However, if you want to attend the great MVMT House programming at the Hilton Garden Inn from Friday, March 7 through Sunday, March 9, then be sure to purchase a SXSW Interactive, Gold or Platinum badge.
