Innovation and creativity provide the driving forces of change in society. On Sunday, March 9 at SXSW Interactive, these ideas will be showcased by young disruptors looking to change their world.
Eight Thiel Fellows, of Peter Thiel's prestigious fellowship program, will present their projects that span all industries and concentrations including biotech, education, fashion, hospitality, mobile technologies, gaming, medicine and science.
Riley Ennis, Riley Drake, Connor Zwick, Clay Allsopp, Ritesh Agarwal, Maddy Maxey and Charlie Stigler proved themselves revolutionaries and game-changers before the age of 19. The go-getters were selected for the Thiel Fellowship from a highly competitive collection of applicants to receive a $100,000 grant to further their influential projects. (Fellows forgo a university education for two years to cultivate their big idea and make it a reality.) Self-education, coaching and mentorship are critical components to the program which advocates doing over studying. Connections and business relationships cultivated during the fellowship could not be achieved in a college environment.
Traditional education models face challenges and university programs don't provide the same value as years ago. The Thiel Fellowship is one extremely effective model for alternative higher education that puts the learning into the hands of the would-be students. Thanks to the fellowship, these young innovators have the opportunity to accomplish in their twenties what most entrepreneurs work for their entire lives. The program is propelled forward each day by the tagline and reminder that "some ideas just can't wait."
