SXSW PanelPicker

Public voting on 2014 SXSW PanelPicker proposals begins on Monday, August 19 and continues through the end of the day on Friday, September 6. Your votes (and your comments) are a very important part of the decision-making process in terms of what sessions occur at SXSW Interactive 2014. But your votes are not the only factor here -- remember that 40% of the decision-making process for any given proposal comes from the SXSW Interactive Advisory Board feedback and that 30% of the decision-making process for any given proposal comes from staff input. Why do we also factor in the opinions of the Advisory Board and the staff on these decisions? Because including three separate inputs for each idea ensures the absolute best mix of content at the event.

With regards to the SXSW PanelPicker, we have found that this interface serves many functions, one of which is a barometer of overall tech industry trends. For instance, we received close to 3000 total speaking proposals via this interface for SXSW 2014. Of these, 590 proposals (or about 18%) were submitted in the "Entrepreneurism and Business" theme, making it the theme with the most entries. These numbers indicate that entrepreneurism, business, startups and startup-related concerns will remain a very powerful force within the international SXSW community for the next several months (just as they have been a power force for the last few years). If you like thinking about these kinds of issues, then stay tuned to the SXSW website on Monday, August 19 to browse the many intriguing speaking proposals that cover entrepreneurism, business, startups and startup-related concerns.
