Need a real life new media industry hero to make you feel more optimistic about our digital future? How about Alexis Ohanian, He co-founded Reddit in 2005, then later moved on to Breadpig and Hipmunk and currently invests or advises more than 60 startups.

More recently he has devoted much of his time to advocating a better course for the Internet (such is the topic of his new book Without Their Permission: How the 21st Century Will Be Made Not Managed). VentureBeat recently speculated that Ohanian might be making a run for Congress. And, don't forget that he is also a strong advocate for the concept of success via failure.

At the 2013 SXSW Interactive Festival, Ohanian delivered a solo presentation titled "Tales of US Entrepreneurship Beyond SIlicon Valley." Click here to watch the 50-minute video from this compelling talk, which argues that the next great innovation may happen outside of the traditional tech epicenters.
