Truth, they say, can be much stranger than fiction, which is one reason Richard Linklater's 2012 film Bernie caused such a stir when it hit festivals and theaters in 2012. Based on a bizarre chunk of Texas lore revolving around a small town murder, Bernie won the Louis Black Lone Star award at SXSW 2012.
