SXsports: The Future of Sports Can be Found in the Data

Much of the innovation and culture around us is inspired by the sports world, whether it’s the shared emotion we feel when our country scores a goal in the World Cup, tools athletes and trainers use to stay in shape, the technology created to maximize our game watching experience, or interested observers evolving sports storytelling and journalism.

SXsports is the incubator for for that change.

With the SXSW PanelPicker open for business, we’re looking for the brightest minds in the sports world to submit their ideas for industry-changing sessions. From the cultural impact of sports to the technological and analytical innovation that occurs on a daily basis, SXsports programming aims to push the envelope. Our broad array of topics and perspectives on the industry of sport leaves no stone unturned. And the best way to be involved is the SXSW PanelPicker.

For the uninitiated, the PanelPicker is our online tool developed to offer the community the chance to become a greater part of the event, not only by submitting programming ideas, but also by reviewing, commenting, and voting for those ideas they most want to see become a part of the event. Submit your idea as an Interactive Session by July 25, when we close for submissions. Be sure to select "Sports" from the drop-down menu for Theme, to ensure the SXsports staff will see it. Community voting begins in August. Confused? No worries, just head over to our PanelPicker FAQ and we’re sure you’ll find your answer there. If not, feel free to email us.

Popular sessions from the inaugural March 2014 event included “Paid to Play: The Future of College Athletics,” “Drones in Sports: The Sky’s the Limit,” “Allyship: Becoming a Champion for Inclusion,” and “The Future of Sports Can Be Found in the Data.”

In 2015, SXsports will take place over a three-day period from Friday, March 13 to Sunday, March 15 as a Convergence track of the SXSW Interactive and Film Festivals. There will be over 40 daytime sessions including solo and dual presentations, panels and daily Featured Sessions, in addition to film screenings, parties and other events. All SXsports happenings will be open to SXSW Interactive, Film, Gold and Platinum badgeholders.
