Getting Around

The ten days that comprise SXSW Interactive, SXSW Film, and SXSW Music occur March 7-16 in Austin, Texas. The Austin Convention Center, located in the heart of downtown, is central to the SXSW experience. That's the first place registrants go to pick up their badge and where they'll spend most of their time at conference panels, keynotes, trade shows, and hundreds of other scheduled activities.

Specific SXSW disciplines (Music, Film, Interactive) also have events taking place outside the Convention Center but most will be easily accessible by foot, shuttle or bicycle.

Official Hotel Shuttle: SXSW is working with shuttle providers to revamp the Hotel Shuttle in order to provide our registrants a more efficient and effective option to get from hotels outside of the walkable downtown area to the Austin Convention Center. This circulating shuttle system will provide Interactive, Film and Music registrants an affordable option to get downtown and back from early in the morning to catch the conference programming to late at night for the parties and official showcases. More information will be available soon on our hotel shuttles page.

Interactive: In addition to the hustle and bustle within the Austin Convention Center, SXSW Interactive will have full slates of conference events and exhibitions at several centrally located venues. Each venue will focus on a different programming theme and will be easily accessible by foot or by the free circulating Interactive Festival Shuttles.

Film: The SXSW Film Festival has a number of venues all within walking distance of the Austin Convention Center. Don't feel like walking? The SXSW Film Festival Shuttle is free for all Platinum, Gold and Film badge holders and will run from Friday, March 7 through Saturday, March 15.

Music: In addition to the Panels, Keynotes, Trade Show, etc. in the Convention Center, the SXSW Music Festival has over 100 stages – most are downtown and many within walking distance of the Austin Convention Center.

Expect to do lots of walking while you're here, so wear your comfy shoes. If walking isn't your style, check out the City of Austin's many modes of transportation or check Capital Metro's Public Transportation and our Cars, Buses & Bikes alternatives.

Getting dropped off at the Austin Convention Center? The best place to do that is in the circle drive located on Cesar Chavez on the south side of the building or at the Hilton Hotel at 5th street and Neches.

Traffic in Austin is greatly affected by road closures during SXSW. Click here for a PDF map of all affected streets and areas. Please note that Riverside Drive will be closed between South first and Lee Barton Drive from 9 am on Tuesday 3/11 until 3 pm on Sunday 3/16.
